Celebrating Women’s History Month - A Grateful Reflection on Work and Family
As we celebrate Women’s History Month, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey I’ve had to date and the meaningful lessons I’ve learned along the way. It’s a moment for me to express my deepest gratitude to so many female role models and also to my children for being the source of inspiration that has fueled my desire to demonstrate that, while not always easy, it is indeed possible to balance a fulfilling career and a thriving family life.
In the hustle and bustle of my life, being a single working mom with a demanding job is a unique experience filled with challenges and triumphs. It may look easy and seamless, but it is important to acknowledge how much effort and energy goes into finding and achieving this balance.
The essence of the balancing act lies in effective time management and prioritization. Planning ahead and setting realistic expectations for both work and family commitments has allowed me to be fully present in each role. It’s about quality over quantity, ensuring that every moment spent with my children was meaningful and cherished.
One of the most significant challenges I have faced was overcoming the guilt that often accompanies the dual responsibilities of a demanding career and parenting. Women’s History Month is an opportunity to debunk the myth that a successful career requires sacrificing the joys of motherhood. Working moms can excel in their professions while still being actively involved in their children’s lives. However, there is a need and an opportunity to continue to challenge societal norms and redefine the narrative around the roles of women in both the workplace and the home. It’s my hope that by embracing this delicate dance between work and family, we can set an example for future generations that demonstrates the endless possibilities that lie ahead for women who dare to dream big.
As we navigate the complexities of being a working mom, we are reminded that our journey is not just about our current experiences but about the legacy we are building together. Relying on a strong network of friends and family, or utilizing resources like childcare services, enables us as working moms to navigate the complexities of our lives.
As Women’s History Month unfolds, I would be remiss not to reflect on the remarkable people who have supported me and served as my guiding light-from family members, friends, mentors and managers to team members. These role models have shaped my journey, instilling resilience, courage and the unwavering belief that every woman has the power to make history in her own unique way. As a working mom, I find myself inspired by those who balance their career demands with being present for their families, realizing that being a role model isn’t just about achieving professional success, but also about showcasing the importance of finding harmony between work and family life.
This Women’s History Month, let’s celebrate the progress that we’ve made, acknowledge the challenges that we’ve had to overcome and those that may still lie ahead, and pledge to work together to ensure more women are empowered to contribute to all aspects of society. It’s time to celebrate the women who do both - who manage boardrooms and bedtime stories - and showcase that with determination and support, we can indeed make it all work.
